These workshop offers are aimed at employees of research and university institutes who already have publication experience. The courses support scientists in expanding routines for planning and presenting the results of scientific projects.

The courses can be held in German as well as in English.

Offers

Workshops for the planning of research projects
These workshops promote effective writing of proposals or concepts for research projects. The focus is on text structure and precise winning language (German or English).

Project outline, project proposal
Target texts: research exposé, research proposal, project outlines, proposals for conferences.
Contents: components of research concepts and their weighting, analysis routines for calls for proposals and specifications of proposals, effective development of project goals and structures, scheduling, formal English for research proposals.


Workshops covering documentation & publication of research results.
These workshops encourage reflection on existing writing routines and offer new strategies that enable even more effective text production (German and English).

Scientific article / peer-reviewed article
Target texts: peer-reviewed articles of all disciplines, specialist articles.
Contents: article concept and structure, publication strategies, systematic ways for journal searching, criteria for deciding on the appropriate journal choice, guidelines and article analysis, article structure, reader orientation: visual & linguistic design, routines for editing reviews.

Monographs
Target texts: textbook, postdoctoral thesis / habilitation treatise & Ph.D. thesis / doctoral thesis.
Contents: publication concepts & analysis routines for publishing requirements, development of the text concept, text structure / outline, work planning & writing strategies, revision routines.

Science communication: press releases & popular science texts.
Target texts: press releases, articles for popular magazines, newsletters, blogs, texts for websites, reports for the interested public.
Contents: good reasons for good science communication, basic decisions (target group, purpose, topics, formats etc.); text types, their characteristics & requirements; strategies for target group-oriented writing; routines for form and language transformation (German).

Interim and final reports for research projects
Target texts: interim report, final report on research project.
Contents: analysis tools for report specifications or guidelines; routines for presenting research results; report language; tips and strategies for writing motivation.


Workshops focusing on collaborative & interactive text work
These workshops focus on the revision process of texts, in particular on collegial feedback. in the team or peer group in the peer review process, or towards students or doctoral candidates.

Peer review of journal articles
Target texts: peer review reports for journals, collegial feedback on a text.
Contents: basic structures of articles, effective criteria for reviews, review language, good atmosphere in the collegial feedback. .

Thesis evaluation reports
Target texts: appraisals and thesis evaluation reports for bachelor's and master's theses.
Contents: guidance and counselling of students in the final phase; basic structures of (BA / MA / PhD) theses; effective criteria for evaluation reports; technical tools for structured evaluations; language for evaluations.



Online or presence formats
Online formats are characterised by short phases in the online seminar room (max. 4 x 45 minutes / day) and offer the possibility of in-depth individual processing or application of the contents in longer intervals of these phases (1 day up to 1 week).
In-house workshops in classroom format have the advantage of being compact (e.g. 2 days á 8 x 45 min) and highly interactive among the participants. Interactive discussion phases offer the opportunity for group solutions, which are more difficult to achieve in individual processing.
All WSB courses are offered in English or German as the language of instruction.



And after the workshops?
Coaching / counselling / mentoring (online or offline)
After the interactive workshops, the desire for individual counselling arises in many participants. The counselling services can be ordered for groups or individuals. The basic goals are accelerated project progress and a sustainable learning or change process related to scientific working methods.
