You have to submit your text without any errors.
The basic proofreading includes corrections that every text finally needs:
- correction of errors in spelling and capitalisation,
- correction of grammar errors and errors in sentence structure,
- correction of punctuation: commas, full stops, quotation marks, etc.,
- correction of format errors: hyphenation, spaces, spacing, font sizes,
- correction of references according to the appropriate standard.
Scientific editing - advanced
When every sentence has to fit.
In addition to the services of the basic proofreading, the extended proofreading includes the stylistic fine-tuning of details:
- checking and correcting academic writing style: comprehensibility of individual sentences, consistency of style,
- checking and correcting verb tenses and moods: present/past, indicative/ subjunctive, passive/active,
- checking & correcting the linking of sentences,
- checking & correcting sentence length, variation of sentence structure,
- checking & correcting appropriate wording: scientific vocabulary vs. everyday language,
- deletion of unnecessary phrases and filler words.
Scientific editing - premium
Clear structures for a more comprehensible text.
In addition to the basic and advanced editing stages, the extended editing includes a review of the text structures and suggestions to make the thread or the argumentation of your work clearly recognisable and to uncover gaps in the text.
The following questions are addressed:
- Does the structure of the text conform to the conventions of your subject?
- Do the headings reflect the argumentation and content of the chapters?
- Is there a clear argumentation and is it easily recognisable?
- Are there gaps in the text, repetitions or digressions that should be avoided?
- Are there connections between the paragraphs of the text, the chapters etc? Are there guiding moderations and good summaries?
- Are the arguments consistently supported by appropriate sources or data?

You will receive an independent review that will help you assess your text quality, make improvements and develop your writing skills. Step 1: Arrangements & scheduling
After your request for proofreading, we send you detailed instructions and a questionnaire in which you document your wishes as precisely as possible. By e-mail or telephone, we arrange dates for the proofreading of your text.
Step 2: Offer & sample edit
On the evening before (by 6pm) the reserved correction period, please send the text to
kontakt@wissenschaftlicheschreibwerkstatt.de and ask for an offer & a sample edit.
If necessary, resend the questionnaire with your requests.
Please send the text as .doc; .docx or .odt format (not as PDF format).
Step 3: Offer and order confirmation & invoice
After you have confirmed the offer, we will send you an order confirmation and an invoice for the fee
to be paid. We start the text revision and you transfer the invoice amount on the agreed payment date.
Step 4: Delivery of the edited text
On the delivery date, you will receive the result of the commissioned editing.
The revision is carried out in your (electronic) text document, in "Track changes" mode, so that each change can be seen
and reversed individually. In addition, the comment function is used for hints.
Together with the revised text, you will receive by e-mail an assessment of the overall quality of your text and a list of
the most important issues you would need to work on to achieve the desired success.
If any questions arise during the post-editing process, you can contact us by e-mail or telephone and we will talk through your questions. In case of extensive problems in the text post-editing, we recommend taking advantage of some
coaching hours.
